Depression: "Can trouble Teenagers"



Most of us teens want to assert our independence once we turn 18 years-old, however have you thought that it can affect you into getting depression? Many parents can wonder  how their children are doing, so how can parents tell if their children are depressed. Here are some warning signs for teenage depression.

When you head to college you might be one of the teenagers who are excited in becoming independent and there can be some teenagers who aren’t ready ,but  will still give it a try.








 According to Paul Raebum, he states that adolescence is a time of huge social and emotional changes for kids, when they enter into complicated social webs at school and begin, sometimes in the most unpleasant ways, to assert their independence from their parents.

If we want to understand teen depression we need to look into deeper details of its symptoms, so the illness can be treated. Yes, teen years are tough, but most teens balance requisites angst with good friendships, success in school or outside activities, and the development of a strong sense of self.

Depression can destroy the very essence of teenager’s personality, causing overwhelming sense of sadness, despair or anger.

Signs of symptoms of depression in teens: 

-Sadness or hopelessness                                 -Restlessness and agitation
-Irritability, anger, and hostility                       - Feelings of worthlessness and guilt
-Tearfulness or frequent crying                        - Lack of enthusiasm and motivation
-Withdrawal from friends and family               -Fatigue or lack of energy
-Loss of interest in activities                            -Difficulty concentrating
-Changes in eating and sleeping habits            -Thoughts of death or suicide

Often, kids with teen depression will have a noticeable change in their thinking and behavior. They may have no motivation and even become withdrawn, closing their bedroom door after school and staying in their room for hours.The natural transition can from child to adult can also bring problems as teens start to become more independent. With all the stress and conflict that goes on, it isn’t easy to differentiate between depression and normal teenage moodiness.

 Making teens even  more complicated; teens with depression do not always show their sad emotions, nor withdrawal others. Although some parents might not agree in their children going far away to college and being independent they should tell support them.

According to Segal , it states that depression is very damaging when left untreated, so don’t wait and hope that the symptoms to go away. If you see depression’s warning signs, seek professional attention. It is really important to help people who are having these symptoms because you can prevent them from getting worse.

We should take action into helping people with these symptoms, wouldn't you want someone to help you,  if you were getting these symptoms?

  1. I believe that one would want help, but refuse to take it because they are too scared to share their real feeling with a stranger. But if it was me, I would want someone to be there when i feel depressed.
