In this article, “What is mental health”, by Roxanne Edwards-Dryden (2012), she informs about how mental health can be prevented and explains what are the causes of mental illness. Then she discusses about how mental illness can result into patterns of behavioral or psychological symptoms that impact multiple areas of life. She states how health in adults tend to report the fewest health related limitations. Finally, the author provides information that can help anyone who has been affected with these types of mental illnesses.

In the article “Exploring the Mystery of REM Sleep”, by Romeo Vitelli (2013), he informs  readers about what role the REM sleep play in humans and also why do we dream at all. It gives us information about the different stages REM sleep has. In addition, the author gives us different theories about REM sleep’s function are that it helps in forming memories, stimulates the central nervous system, and restores chemistry to a normal balance. Finally, he states that REM sleep shares many common features with tonic immobility, including inability to move while sleeping, also known as sleep paralysis.

This article is helpful because we can also learn how REM sleep was first evolved. His objective is to inform people the reasons why we dream in sleeping stages. “Also what are the causes we dream in these stages” He provides multiple perspectives from other authors within a respected organization.

In the article “Natural Patterns of Sleep”, by Dr. Thomas Scammell (2014) gives us readers a glance about how sleep was once considered an inactive or passive, state in which both the body and the brain are “turned off” to rest and recuperate from the day’s waking activities. Also scientist have found that the brain goes through characteristics patterns of activity throughout each period of sleep, and that it is sometimes more active when we’re asleep than we are awake. Finally, he states that daytime napping can be very beneficial for our bodies to intake enough energy.

 This source helped me get more information about my topic and also learn more about sleeping patterns. The author’s objective is to inform adult’s that if there healthy, sleep typically begins with NREM sleep. He also describes differences between NREM sleep and REM sleep continues to alternate through the night in a cyclical fashion.

Finally, this research made more aware of how our sleep can different stages and in adults if your healthy you would have NREM sleep and if you’re  not healthy you would have REM sleep.

In the Brain Science Podcast is an interview with an author named David Bainbridge (2009), of Teenagers a Natural History. He focuses on how the brain changes during the teenage. He gives reasons why teenagers start to act in different ways. In addition, he concludes that sleep is another way to consolidate learning and to have much more focus in school. Finally, he also states that this is another reason why getting a full night of uninterrupted sleep is important, so that one wouldn’t feel drowsy the next morning.

This source was really helpful because it can inform many teenagers that it’s important to get a good night rest because the consequence would be not having enough of energy in the morning. The author’s objective is to let teenagers know that sleep is really important in our lives and if we want to be healthy and not get sleep deprivation.

This source gives me enough information to elaborate more on my research. The author gives important facts that can be supported with my previous posts. In addition, here was a study that examined links among interpersonal stress, text-messaging behavior, and three indicators of college students’ health: burnout, sleep problems and emotional well-being. Finally, the research studies showed that 70 percent of college students receive less than the eight recommended hours of sleep.
